The Vintners' Company, renowned as the Spiritual Home of the International Wine Trade, has joined forces with 3Pillars in a mission to broaden Release on Temporary Licence (ROTL) prospects for young people in custody.
This collaboration aims to extend placements as assistant coaches in the community for these individuals as they approach the end of their sentences. In addition to practical experience, participants will undergo intensive mentoring encompassing physical activity, qualification attainment, and personal development. The ultimate goal is to facilitate sustainable employment within and beyond the community, addressing a fundamental factor contributing to re-offending: stable employment. The initiative strives to bridge this gap prior to release, offering a pathway to a brighter future.
Outlined within the partnership are five key long-term outcomes:
1. Employment: Provision of employment opportunities with a focus on securing guaranteed work post-release.
2. Education: Integration of qualifications and skills development into the individual's journey.
3. Training: Encouragement for participants to step out of their comfort zones and acquire new skills.
4. Reduced Recidivism: A significant decrease in the likelihood of reoffending.
5. Community Cohesion: Participants will actively contribute to the community through support for exercise-based mental health, youth, wellbeing, and integration sessions.
Mike, 3PP'S CEO and a former member of the Royal Tank Regiment from 2008 to 2016, recalls encountering the Vintners' work during his tenure. As the Ice Sports Captain, engaged in both bobsleigh and Skeleton bob, Mike and his comrades were fortunate to receive support from and interact with members of the livery.
Reflecting on this experience, Mike remarked, "I was always struck by the power of the opportunity that the company supported our young soldiers with and the strength of the relationships this forged."
Through this partnership, the Vintners' Company and 3Pillars aim to empower individuals, break cycles of re-offending, and foster positive community engagement. Together, they are paving the way for a brighter future for young people transitioning back into society.
